How Much Money Can You Make Selling Tradelines? Let’s Estimate.
Selling tradelines is one of the easiest ways to earn extra cash. You fill out an application form with a reputable company, get your authorized user (AU) slot listed on their sales page, and wait for the rental fees to be deposited into your seller’s account. Once in a while, you’ll check your email and phone your lender to add new AUs. Simple, right?
Before you take out a loan on a Maserati, though, it pays to understand how much you can earn selling tradelines. As with most ventures in the gig economy, the answer is, “It depends.” Some of our beginner sellers earn just $50 per cycle, while our top sellers take home around $24,000 annually. This guide breaks down the factors that affect payouts, how long the process takes, and how to estimate potential earnings before you apply.
Top Payout Drivers
Several factors influence how much your tradeline can earn. These include the account’s age (most important), credit limit, utilization, and number of available AU slots. Cardholders wishing to sell tradelines with Priority Tradelines must meet the minimum requirements listed below. Selling a seasoned or premium tradeline, however, will yield more cash.

Your credit lender and account’s statement closing date also impact the value of your tradeline. Similarly, some credit card issuers—like Chase, Navy Federal, Pentagon Federal, and Barclays—offer higher-limit cards and report AU tradelines to multiple credit bureaus, making them ideal for tradeline sales.

Example Payout Scenarios
1 AU slot, $2.5k credit limit
Let’s say you have a credit card with one AU slot that meets the minimum eligibility requirements for sale. Because it’s a newer card with a lower credit limit, it will provide only a small boost to a buyer’s credit score. For some buyers, that is all they need—and may be what they’re willing to afford. A tradeline meeting the minimum requirements will be cheaper to purchase, usually around $300. However, that means your earnings will be lower, too.
Sellers typically receive 30% of a tradeline’s sale price. So if your tradeline sells for $300, you can expect to earn $90-$130 per sale.
2 AU slots, $5k credit limit
Now, imagine you have two open AU slots on a seasoned account (5-7+ years) with a $5,000+ credit limit. These tradelines might sell for $400-600 each. In that case, you would earn about $120 to $180 per tradeline sold.
6 AU slots, $24k credit limit
To maximize their earnings, some tradeline sellers develop a portfolio of seasoned, high-limit credit accounts with multiple AU slots. If utilization is low, tradelines at this level might be priced around $1,000. If all six slots were sold, the seller would take home $1800+. This is for just one credit card account. This will compound the more qualified accounts you add even if they have different credit limits and credit ages.
Keep in mind that these estimates are per AU slot sold, not monthly. Sales are made per billing cycle, which, depending on your lender, could be more than 30 days. Also, credit demand varies throughout the year, so your open tradeline may not attract a buyer right away. It’s important to plan your finances accordingly—especially to avoid increasing your credit utilization, which will decrease your tradeline earning potential.
Priority Tradelines pays sellers via Zelle or ACH once the AU tradeline has successfully posted to the buyer’s credit report. Tradelines typically post to credit reports near the card’s statement closing date, not the day you add the AU. That’s why all tradelines listed with Priority include a Purchase By date. Abiding by this date ensures tradelines are reported right away so that sellers can get paid and buyers can optimize their credit boost. Otherwise, the tradeline could take up to two billing cycles to appear on the buyer’s credit report, delaying any payment by weeks.
The Tradeline Sales Process and Timeline
Understanding how the tradeline sales process works will help you set realistic earning expectations.
Submit an eligible card for listing and get approved (1-3 days)
Client orders a tradeline, and you receive and process the order
The tradeline posts to the buyer’s credit report (7–30 days)
Payment is released once posting is confirmed (7 days from statement /Report date)
Keep in mind that tradeline posting varies because each lender and credit bureau has their own process and timeline for reporting. That’s why we ask sellers to disclose their statement closing dates, so we can optimize the sales and payment process for everyone involved.
In practice, many sellers experience a one?billing?cycle gap between adding an AU and receiving payment. This is normal and not a sign that something went wrong.
Income earned from selling tradelines is like any income earned from other sources: it should be declared, as required, on your state and federal taxes. For amounts that meet federal thresholds for reporting, Priority Tradelines furnishes sellers with a 1099 tax form to assist with tax filing. If your earnings do not meet the $600 minimum, you may not receive a 1099. Depending on your financial situation, however, you may still be required to declare this income. In that case, you should track your tradeline earnings and set aside a portion to cover any taxes assessed on the amount.
For further questions or concerns about declaring your tradeline earnings, we recommend speaking with a qualified tax professional. Priority Tradelines does not provide professional tax advice.
Maximizing Your Earnings
Maximizing tradeline earnings can be accomplished in three simple steps:
Submit an eligible card
Keep utilization low (under 10%)
Make every credit payment on time
If you follow these practices consistently over time, your tradeline will increase in value, leading to more sales and higher payouts.
