Why is Wells Fargo shutting down their credit cards ?
Wells Fargo & Co is discontinuing all existing personal lines of credit and no longer offering consumer credit products. Somewhat surprisingly, Wells Fargo announced in early July that it was closing all current personal lines of credit and no longer accepting new applications. For instance, your home fills in as security with a home value credit extension (HELOC). It unsecured credit is similar to most rewards credit cards in that it does not require collateral but can have a credit line of up to $100,000 and a lower interest. If you default on a HELOC, the bank can foreclose on your home.
Then again, individual credit extensions can hurt your financial assessment if you miss installments and default on an advance. The lender may also legally require you to make payments.
Inactive credit cards can resume.
Until further notice, it's as yet conceivable to apply for unstable Wells Fargo Mastercards and keep your current Wells Fargo cards.
One small exception to this statement may be inactive credit cards. Most banks lessen spending limits and may close Visa accounts with insignificant movement.
According to a survey by LendingTree, 70 million Americans involuntarily reduced their credit card limit or closed their entire account between mid-May and July.
More current statistics are not currently available, but banks regularly purge their portfolios of inactive credit cards to minimize the risk to consumers.
Whether or not you have a Wells Fargo credit card, you should make purchases several times a year to avoid account closures and credit limit reductions. Both of these events can negatively impact your credit score.
